Olena Stupina

I began studying the temple dance in 2012 in Odessa, under the direction of Yoko Yokoyama, a student of Ganna Smirnova. Until 2014 I was a student of the branch of the Kiev theater "Nakshatra", the founder and performer of which was Ganna Smirnova.

Ganna Smirnova was a panelist for the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and an active member of the UNESCO International Dance Center (CID).

Then my teacher Yoko Yokoyama left Odessa.

Thereby, in agreement with our mentor Anna Smirnova, I was approved as a teacher of Indian classical dance at the Nakshatra Theater branch. After the departure of Ganna Smirnova, we lost contact with her and the theater. Difficult times have come, and the group has practically fall apart. Butdespite everything, I continued to teach and keep in touch with Yoko San who periodically came to Odessa and gave me lessons.

Ibegan to visit India and look for teachers of Bharatanatyam.

Since 2015, in South India in Tamil Nadu, I met withShalneyJi (Kamalinirajesh), a teacher of classical dance (Bharani Park the School of Exelence, Karur Tamil Nadu). Every year I come to India and take dance lessons at her school, since.

In 2016, under the guidance of ShalneyJi on Maha Shivaratri, I danced at a big festival of Indian classical dance, in the Pasupateeswarar temple, Karur.

In 2017, in Delhi, I met an outstanding dancer and guru Jayalakshmi Eshwar. She accepted me as Ganna Smirnova's student and for a month I attended her classes at the Triveni Kala Sangam, Tansen Marg, Mandi House, Delhi art school.

Now our dance collective "Sundari" is successfully develops and replenished with new students. We regularly participate in various festivals and concerts. For today, our team of temple dance is exclusive in the city of Odessa.

We will be incredibly grateful for your support at the level of the Embassy of India, as well as the Indian Cultural Center.
